To stop the bleeding, apply firm but gentle pressure on the cut with a clean cloth, tissue, or piece of gauze. If the gauze or cloth you’re holding over the cut absorbs blood, leave it on. Simply layer additional gauze on top of what is already in place. Reapply pressure for an additional 20 to 30 minutes (Familydoctor.org, 2021).
